Pressure Too High for Students in China

What is considered to be one of the toughest and most stressful times for many high school students in China, the days of the Gaoko exam are quickly approaching. The Gaoko exam is considered the most competitive exam in the country and is key for many students to get into the university of their choice. The anticipation of the exam can take its toll on the students; this added pressure has been volatile to the livelihood for many students and as a result, suicide rates are always higher during the testing season.

The pressure has become so hard for students in Hengshui High School in the Hebei province that the school has installed floor to ceiling railings in hallways of the building so students cannot jump off the roof. For many, education in a good university is the only thing they need in order to start a proper future and those who don’t accomplish this goal rather not live…
