Nestle will destroy 400 million packets of its very popular Maggi noodles due to a ban imposed by India’s food safety regulator. Nestle states it will take minimum 40 days to dispose of all the noodles. India’s food safety regulator states that it has dangerous levels of lead. Some states are testing the noodles for monosodium glutamate (MSG).
Nestle argues that the tests are inaccurate, stating they have conducted their own tests on over 1,000 batches of noodles saying they were perfectly safe to eat. The Maggi noodles that are with distributors, retail outlets, and consumers are being bought back by the carton in order to destroy them.
