Constant monsoon rains have caused widespread damage to public and private properties in Gujarat. Thousands of people are struggling on higher ground to avoid the floods. Over 600 villages have been affected in the coastal district of Amreli. Farmers have lost crops due to the heavy rains. Lions in the Gir forest in Junagadh have also been hit by the rains forcing them out of their habitat. Pilgrimages to Hindu holy sites have been halted as well.
The defense ministry sent out air force helicopters to drop food packets to stranded people. Some individuals were airlifted to safety, rescue and relief efforts have begun, and hopefully they arrive in time to those that need it the most.
