Chinese social media celeb may face 10 years in jail

Guo Meimei is a high-profile socialite is in jail for running an illegal gambling den.  Guo is known for her wealth and extravagant lifestyle on Sina Weibo, China’s version of twitter.  She was arrested last year, and if found guilty could face up to 10 years in jail. 

Upon her arrest last August, she confessed a life of illegal gambling and paying for sex.  On a Weibo account she has pictures of herself posing with luxury sports cars and designer bags.  She was also identified as a commercial general manager for the Chinese Red Cross which brought attention to many on how a charity worker could manage such a lavish lifestyle.  The Red Cross has denied any connection with Guo.
